Smithfield Wins Inaugural DII Golf Championship
Smithfield High School won the inaugural DII High School Golf State Championship on Tuesday at Winnapaug.
The Sentinals carded a team score of 324 to beat East Providence by four shots to capture the title.
Smithfield was led by junior Jack Hannigan who fired a 72 and Troy Stockwell who posted an 80.
John Rinaldi and Christian Snowman added rounds of 86 to seal the win.
Ian Dunham took medalist honors for the boys with a round of 70, and Julia Nault took medalist honors for the girls with a round of 82.
The DII State Championship is hosted by the RI Golf Coaches Association.
