La Salle’s Olivia Williams Wins Girls State Title

La Salle junior Olivia Williams rallied from four shots back on the final day to win the Girls High School State Title on Wednesday at Cranston Country Club.

Williams carded a two-day score of 154 (7-over) to edge Lily Dessel by one shot and first round leader Adriana Eaton by two shots.

“I’m really excited and I’m glad that I could come back after not having the best season. I’m glad that I could finish this strong,” said Williams after the round.

This is Williams second High School State Championship after winning the tournament as a freshman two years ago.

Williams started the day four shots back of defending champion Adriana Eaton.

The tournament flipped on the eight hole when Eaton made seven and Williams made a three to pull into a tie for the lead.

The two went back and forth for the remainder of the match with Williams holding a one shot lead on Eaton heading into the last hole.

“She is a great player, great competitor, great to play with. We are friends. Adriana had a great season, she did great yesterday and yea, great competitor,” added Williams.

Williams made a bogey on 18, while Eaton made double.

Eaton’s double actually moved Lily Dessel into solo second place.
