URI Finishes 4th at Rutherford Intercollegiate
The University of Rhode Island golf team finished in a tie for fourth place this past weekend at the Rutherford Intercollegiate in Pennsylvania.
Rhode Island tied for the second-lowest team score of the day in the final round, climbing five spots up the team standings.
“We had a very nice day today, improving by 13 shots from the second round and 20 shots from the first round,” said Head Coach Gregg Burke.
The tournament was won by Penn State.
Rhode Island goes to the A-10 Championships next at the end of the month.
Leading Rhody
The Rams were led by sophomore Aidan O’Donovan, who finished in a tie for 5th place at two-over par.
“Aidan was masterful and was in the mix a couple times today. He was able to block out all the noise and just hit very good shots. He was on full command of his game,” said Burke.
Star player Bryson Richards finished in a tie for 12th at six-over.
“Bryson got really hot at one point making four consecutive birdies while only hitting just one green in regulation along the way. I like his chances at A10s,” added Burke.
Richards had a hole-in-one earlier in the tournament.
Freshman Josiah Tong had to withdraw from the Saturday round due to injury.
He came in the final round to card a one-over 72.
“Josiah played with a bad knee all day and gave us a great score. I would have loved to see him healthy for this event,” Burke said.
