URI Finishes 13th at Cutter Creek Intercollegiate
The University of Rhode Island golf team finished in 13th at the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate this weekend in North Carolina.
The Rams posted a team score of 19-over par to finish just ahead of Robert Morris and Gardner-Webb.
“We were under par over the final two rounds but our poor play in the first really made this a difficult experience,” said URI Head Coach Gregg Burke after the tournament.
East Carolina won the tournament at 24-under par, two shots better than Elon.
Leading Rhody
The Rams were led by freshman Tony Liu who finished in a tie for 24th at one-over par for the tournament.
The A-10 Freshman of the Week carded rounds of 75, 69 and 73.
“Tony wasn’t himself as a ball striker or putter today. But when he made the triple, he followed it with three birdies. He is as tough as they come,” said Burke.
Star player Bryson Richards finished in a tie for 33rd at three-over for the week.
Richards posted rounds of 73, 72 and 74.
Freshman Josiah Tong finished in a tie for 42nd at five-over par.
Owen Rooney and Sebastian Carlsson rounded out the URI lineup in 88th and 93rd respectively.
