Course Review: Rose Hill Golf Club – March 9, 2024
I paid my first visit to Rose Hill, a par 3 course located in Kingston, RI. I’m not sure how I have gone this long without playing it, especially since I went to URI. A bunch of us newbs went to check it out before playing in their St. Patrick’s Day tournament in a couple of weeks.
When you go into pay your greens fee, you might experience a bit of deja vu. If you have ever been to Pinecrest, their bar areas are carbon copies of each other. As you walk out the back door, you’ll notice a large pond in the middle with the majority of the holes surrounding it.
We decided to play the whites, then the blues for the 2nd nine. The first hole was about 70 yards, and I was about to find out, with water behind the green. I tried to three-quarter a 50 degree wedge, but with the wind behind us, it proved too much. It hit the backstop mound behind the pin and kept going into the murky pond.

The 2nd hole was about the same distance and still had a case of the longs but managed to still make par.
The 3rd hole was about 45 yards, but don’t let that fool you. The green had a slope going from right to left that would prove tricky when putting. Pretty sure I landed a 60 degree behind and to the right of the pin, leaving me a downhill breaking putt.
I’ll spare you the details on the rest of the holes. I believe the longest club I played was a 7-iron, so if you want to carry a Sunday bag, you won’t need your woods. One trap was packed and was able to use a 5-hybrid to roll it out.
I am really looking forward to playing the course again. Even though it is still winter, the greens rolled great and when the warmer weather gets here, look out, they’ll be fast. And danger lurks everywhere. Traps, the pond, little streams and woods to the left on 7, 8 and 9.
I believe the 5th hole’s green slopes toward the tee and if you spin it too much, it can roll back to the water. Definitely a great place to work on your irons and putting.
It was $29 for 18 holes walking.
