Welch Cards His Lowest Round of Season, Sits T11 at Chile Classic
Classical High School grad Patrick Welch carded his lowest round of the season on Thursday morning during the first round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Astara Chile Classic.
Welch fired a five-under 67 and sits in a tie for 11th with just a few players left on the course.
The former Oklahoma star has yet to make a cut on the Korn Ferry Tour this season and this is his first round in the 60s.
Meanwhile, Davis Chatfield posted a one-over 73 on Thursday and sits in a tie for 125.
He will have some work to do to make the cut.
Curtis Luck leads the tournament at seven-under par.
Welch’s Round
Starting on the first hole, Welch opened with a birdie to get to one-under right off the start.
He gave it back with a bogey on the par-5 third hole, but would quickly turn it around.
Welch would birdie four of the next six holes to turn at four-under 32.
On the back side, Welch opened by saving par on the first five holes to stay at five-under.
He bogeyed the 15th hole, but would again recover by birdieing the 17 and 18th holes to shoot 67.
Chatfield’s Round
The former Rhode Island Amateur champ started on the back side, but bogeyed two of the first three holes to get to two over par.
Chatfield got one back with a birdie on 14, but gave it right back with a bogey on 15.
He closed the opening nine with a birdie on the 18th to turn at one over.
On the front side, Chatfield bogeyed the third hole before closing with a birdie on the ninth to finish the day at one-over.
