Starting on the front side, Dickson opened with a birdie on the second hole, but followed up with bogeys on three of the next five holes.
On the 8th hole, he carded a double-bogey six to drop to four-over on the round.
The former Moses Brown star closed the front nine with a birdie on the ninth to turn at 39 (three over).
Turning to the back side, Dickson got off to a hot start with birdies on the 11th, 12th and 14th to climb back to even par on the day.
