Rhode Islanders Over Par After First Round of Gasparilla Invitational
All three Rhode Islanders are over par after the first round of the Gasparilla Invitational down in Florida.
Bobby Leopold and Tyler Cooke each posted rounds of six-over 76, while Larry Lafauci posted a 12-over 82.
Leopold and Cooke are tied for 82nd, while Lafauci is tied for 135th.
Four players lead the tournament at three-under par.
Leopold’s Round
The four-time RI Amateur champ opened the round with a double bogey on the second hole and then bogeyed the fourth, fifth and sixth holes to card a 40 on the front.
On the back side, Leopold birdied the 11th, but suffered bogeys on 15, 16, and 17.
He closed with a birdie on the 18th to shoot 36 on the back for a total of 76.
Cooke’s Round
Cooke opened with back-to-back bogeys on the first two holes, before bouncing back with a birdie on the fifth.
After three straight pars, Cooke bogeyed nine to turn at 37.
On the back side, Cooke made bogeys on 12 and 13, and then added more bogeys on 17 and 18.
Lafauci’s Round
Lafauci was hurt by two double bogeys on the second and fourth hole surrounded by bogeys on the first, third, seventh, eighth and ninth to turn at 45.
On the back, Lafauci added three more bogeys before closing the day with a birdie on 18.
He posted a 37 on the back side.
