Northeast Am Champ Nick Dunlap Wins PGA Tour Event as Amateur
Defending Northeast Amateur champ Nick Dunlap won the PGA Tour’s American Express Championship on Sunday afternoon in California.
Dunlap is the first amateur to win a Tour event since Phil Mickelson in 1991.

He is just the fifth amateur to win on Tour since 1940.
Dunlap, a sophomore at Alabama, started the day with a three shot lead.
He trailed by one on the 16th hole, before making birdie to tie the lead.
On 17, co-leader Sam Burns dunked his ball in the water and made double, giving Dunlap the lead by himself.
Dunlap survived the last hole to win the tournament.
Now the question is, will he turn pro on Monday?
A win on the PGA Tour gives him a two-year exemption. So he could go back to school and finish out the year, or turn pro right away.
