Jon Rahm Signs with LIV Golf

Defending Masters Champion and third ranked player in the world Jon Rahm has signed with LIV Golf.

According to multiple reports from publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Golf Channel and ESPN, the deal is expected to be announced imminently.

Reportedly, the deal is in the range of $500 million and Rahm will be getting his own team at some point if not right away.

“I just think when guys get thrown money at them everyone’s got a number in the end. I just hope he makes the right decision by him and his family. It doesn’t matter to me. Personally, if he leaves it makes my job easier because I don’t have to compete against him. I just want him to be happy. That’s all that matters in the end,” Jason Day told the Palm Beach Post when asked about Rahm leaving.

Rahm jumping ship comes just weeks before the deadline hits for the PGA Tour and the Saudi Public Investment Fund to come to an agreement.

According to Dan Rapaport, that deal is in jeopardy.

LIV Golf now has three of the top five (or so) players in the world with Rahm, Cam Smith and Brooks Koepka, not to mention Dustin Johnson, Bryson Dechambeau and Patrick Reed, all of whom are major champions.

This decision is a complete 180 from what Rahm has said in the past about LIV.

When asked at the 2022 U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Rahm had this to say:

“Shot gun 3 days to me is not a golf tournament , no cut. I wanna play against the best in the world in a format that’s been going on for 100s of years. Would my lifestyle change if I got $400M? Not one bit,” he said in a press conference.
