USGA, R&A Expected to Announce Golf Ball Rollback Next Week
Golf’s governing bodies, the USGA and R&A, are expected to announce a universal rollback of the golf ball early next week, according to multiple reports.
A “universal rollback” of the ball means it will affect both professional players and amateur players at all levels.
This decision comes after three years of conversations, debate and comments.
According to Golf Digest, the new golf ball rules will not go into effect for professionals until the year 2028.
For amateurs, rules won’t go into effect until 2030.
It is important to note, that though these rules are being put in place, they don’t necessarily need to be adopted by the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour etc…
In theory, it is possible that pros could play one ball on the PGA Tour and then have to change balls for events like the U.S. Open.
The USGA and R&A have not offered any comment at this point.
