Larry Lafauci Wins Back-to-Back RI Mid-Ams
Kirkbrae’s Larry Lafauci Jr. won his second straight Rhode Island Mid-Amateur on Wednesday afternoon at Quinnatisset Country Club in Connecticut.
“This just validates last year’s victory,” Lafauci told GolfNewsRI after the round.
Lafauci finished the tournament at two-under par to win by two shots over Tyler Cooke and Jamie Lukowicz, who finished at even par.
This is Lafauci’s third state win of his career, including two Mid-Ams and a Four-Ball title.
Lafauci’s Final Round
Starting the final round with a one shot lead over Steve Chevalier, Lafauci bogeyed the third hole, but got it right back with a birdie on the fifth hole.
He played the front nine at even par.
On the back side, Lafauci dropped a shot on the 11th hole, but again got it right back with a birdie on the 14th.
Those were the only two bogeys he made the entire tournament.
“It sounds ridiculous to say at 43, but I think I’m just maturing as a golfer. Tommy McCormick has been a huge part of that and Mike Soucy,” said Lafauci.
He saved par the rest of the way to win the tournament.
Lafauci was the only player to finish under par in the tournament.
Senior Mid-Am
Pawtucket’s Brian O’Leary won the Senior Mid-Amateur Championship with a two round score of four-over par.
He beat Michael After and John Auclair by one shot.
