Chatfield’s Round

Starting on ten, Chatfield opened with five straight pars, before dropping back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes to get to two under.

He gave one back on the 17th hole to turn at 34 (1-under).

On the front side, Chatfield birdied the second hole, dropped another birdie on the fourth and again on the sixth to get to four-under.

At the time, that tied him for the lead.

The former RI Amateur champ would bogey the ninth hole to shoot 68.

Triple-Bogey Sinks Welch

Patrick Welch also started on the back side and played it at even par, bogeying 11 and making birdie on the 16th hole.

Switching to the front side, Welch dropped birdies on the first and second holes to get to two-under.

However, disaster struck on the par-5 fourth hole.

Welch put his tee shot in the rough, took a penalty drop, put his fourth shot in the rough, took another penalty drop and made an eight.

The former Oklahoma star got it back with birdies on the sixth and seventh holes, but then bogeyed eight and nine to finish at one-over.
