MA’s Berberian Cards 59 at Agawam Hunt in NEPGA Championship

Vesper Country Club head pro Rich Berberian carded a 10-under 59 in the first round of the NEPGA Championship on Tuesday at Agawam Hunt.
“Nothing has gone better, I’ll say that. I mean a lot of good shots, a lot of good putts. Every time I read a putt it did what I thought it would and my speed on the greens were great,” Berberian told the NEPGA afterward.

The tournament is split between Agawam and Kirkbrae for the first two days.
The 59 is a course record at Agawam and gives Berberian a commanding six shot lead with two days to go.
It is also the second 59 shot in Rhode Island over the last two days, after Andrew O’Leary fired a 59 at Pawtucket on Monday.
Berberian’s Round
Berberian’s round featured eight birdies and one eagle.
He birdied the first two holes at Agawam and then eagled the third hole to get the day started.
The New Hampshire native followed up with birdies on the fourth, sixth and eighth holes to turn at 28.
On the back side, Berberian birdied the 12th, 15th and 16 holes, while saving par on 17 and 18 to shoot the magic number.
