URI Alum Dawson Jones Wins Greater Cedar Rapids Open

University of Rhode Island alum Dawson Jones won the Greater Cedar Rapids Open by three shots on Saturday afternoon in Iowa.

Jones carded a three-round score of 17-under par to beat Tripp Kinney by three and take home the $30K first place prize.

Jones graduated from URI in 2019 and then quit golf for a couple of years before picking it back up recently.

“It’s awesome. It’s a great feeling. I just turned professional back in December and I haven’t had any wins so this is the first one and it’s a special one. It’s definitely exciting. I had some wins as an amateur, so I do know what the feeling is, but this being professional, this is more exciting,” Jones said after the round.

Jones held a two-shot lead heading into the final round, but after a birdie on the fourth hole, he would maintain at least a two-shot lead the entire day.
