Fenway Sports Group Purchases Boston TGL Franchise
Fenway Sports Group has purchased a franchise in Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s new golf league – TGL.
The franchise will be based out of Boston.
“We always thought that team golf was something that was exciting, and this idea by Mike and Tiger and Rory is really an innovative experience that’s going to combine technology with live action. We think we can be additive. We think this team idea translates well to the passion that Boston sports fans have,” said Chairman Tom Werner in a statement to the Sports Business Journal (SBJ).
Fenway Sports Group currently owns the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball and the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League.
According to SBJ, a team name will be announced later this summer as well as decisions on staffing.
Werner says that Sam Kennedy, the President and CEO of the Red Sox will be involved in some way.
TGL is set to launch in January of 2024 .
There are currently six franchises, two of which have been purchased.
The Boston franchise by Fenway Sports Group and the LA Franchise by Serena Williams.
