Welch Cards 67, Chatfield Even Par in Round 1 on Korn Ferry Tour

Playing in his second event as a pro, Patrick Welch opened the tournament with a first round 67 (3-under) at the Korn Ferry Tour’ s Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open. 

Welch currently sits in tie for 41st overall and will look to make the cut on Friday. 

Last week, the former Classical star got off to a great start with a first round 66, but a second round 75 caused him to miss the cut.

Meanwhile, Davis Chatfield sits at even par for the tournament after an opening round 70. 

He is tied for 113th and will have work to do to make the cut on Friday. 

Kyle Jones leads the tournament at eight-under.

Welch’s Round

Welch opened the round with a bogey on the first hole, but after that, he had it rolling. 

The former Oklahoma star rallied with birdies on each of the next two holes and added a birdie on the seventh hole to turn at two-under 33. 

Welch backed up on the tenth hole with a bogey, but again rallied with two birdies coming in on 11 and 14 to shoot 67. 

Chatfield’s Round

Starting on ten, Chatfield opened with three pars before a bogey on the 13th hole. 

He bounced back with birdies on the 14th and 15th holes, but cost himself with a double-bogey on 18 to turn at one-over 36. 

On the back side, Chatfield saved par on every hole before dropping a birdie on the ninth to get back to even for the day.
