Moses Brown’s Adriana Eaton Holds on to Win Girls State Championship

Moses Brown freshman Adriana Eaton held on to win the Girls High School State Championship on Wednesday afternoon at Cranston Country Club.

“I’m excited. I don’t think it has fully sunken in yet. I’m proud of myself because coming into this tournament, I was just trying to put a low score for my team and it ended up with me winning the girls championship,” said Eaton after the round.

Eaton carded an 8-over 150 and was sitting comfortably in the clubhouse until defending champion Olivia Williams eagle the 17th hole.

“Olivia eagled 17 and I was oh if she eagles 18 she is back in it. So I really never knew that I won it,” Eaton added.

This is Moses Brown’s first state golf title of any kind since 2018, and their first ever Girls State Title.

The win also gives Adriana some bragging rights over her sister, Kylie, who finished fourth in the tournament.

“I think she put up a good fight, I just had my A game and she didn’t have the best day,” Adriana said.

Adriana’s Round

Starting the day with the lead, Eaton played the front nine at three-over par to extend the lead heading into the back side.

However, back-to-back bogeys on 13 and 14 saw Eaton’s lead go down to one stroke with Lily Dessel close behind.

On the par-3 15th, Eaton nearly holed it, leaving a tap-in birdie to extend the lead and get into the clubhouse.

Williams 17th hole eagle brought the attention back to the golf course, but she was not able to hole-out on 18.
