Vinny Papa Leads Commonwealth Classic After Opening Round
Rhode Island’s Vinny Papa is leading the Commonwealth Classic on the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour after round one at Lake Monticello in Virginia.
Papa fired a two-under 70 in the opening round and leads the tournament by three shots over Virginia’s Macie Rasmussen.
She is the only Rhode Islander in the field.
Papa opened the first round with birdies on the second hole and the sixth hole to quickly get to two-under on the round.
A double-bogey on the ninth hole brought her back to the pack at the turn, and a bogey on ten brought her to over par.
However, she would recover from there.
Papa would birdie the 13th hole to get back to even, and then drop birdie putts on 17 and 18 to finish at two-under.
