Sports Writer Joe McDonald Named Director of Communications at RIGA

Award-winning sports writer Joe McDonald has been named the new Director of Communications at the Rhode Island Golf Association (RIGA), the organization announced on Friday.

McDonald most recently worked for the Worcester Telegram, covering the Worcester Red Sox and Boston Bruins.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the RIGA and look forward to continuing its long and storied tradition of promoting golf in the Ocean State. I started my sports writing career by covering local golf at the Journal with the legendary Paul Kenyon. In fact, my first byline was a story about Foster Country Club in March of 1996,” said McDonald in a press release.

He is a three-time winner of the Rhode Island Sportswriter of the Year (2004, 2007, 2009).

“We’re excited to add Joe to our staff. His communication and journalism background will be a big asset to the RIGA and its members,” said RIGA Executive Director Bob Ward in a statement.

According to RIGA, McDonald begins his role on March 1.
