Welch’s Round

Starting on the back nine at Torrey Pines south, Welch nearly aced the par-3 11th hole hitting his tee shot to the left of the flag and letting it trickle down.

It resulted in a tap in birdie to get him to one-under for the day.

After two pars on 12 and 13, the 14th hole was a bit of a mess.

The former Classical star hit the fairway, but put his second shot in the bunker near the green.

From there he flew it across the green and ended up making a double-bogey six to get to one-over.

Three more pars brought Welch to the famed par-5 18th hole where he rolled in a birdie from 11 feet away to turn at even par.

On the front side, Patrick saved par on the first hole after his second shot found the rough near the green.

He hit a great chip to five feet and made the putt.

On the second hole, he his birdie putt by the hole two feet and made the par putt.

The par-3 third hole presented a great opportunity for a birdie, and Patrick just missed by a couple of inches.

An easy tap in par.

On the fourth hole, Welch two putted from 52 feet to save par.

Green side bunkers continued to be a problem on the front side when Welch found one on five.

He flew the ball over the green and ended up making a bogey to get to one-over.

Welch would par put the rest of the way to shoot 1-over 73.
