Winged Foot to Host 2028 U.S. Open
Winged Foot will host the 2028 U.S. Open, the USGA announced on Monday.
This is the seventh time Winged Foot will host the Open, with the previous time coming in 2020.
“Winged Foot has provided the backdrop for some of the most dramatic moments in the history of our sport, with many of golf’s legendary champions being crowned on the club’s iconic West Course. We strive to provide players with the greatest stages on which to compete for a national championship, and there are a few stages as grand as Winged Foot,” said John Bodenhamer, the USGA’s chief championships officer.
Winged Foot hosted its first U.S. Open in 1929 when Bobby Jones won in a 36-hole playoff.
With Winged Foot now slotted in, that means the next six U.S. Open sites are spoken for, and none of which is The Country Club at Brookline.
LA Country Club will host this summer, followed by Pinehurst in 2024, Oakmont in 2025, Shinnecock Hills in 2026 and Pebble Beach in 2027.
There is an open slot in 2029, before Merion will host in 2030.
