Morikawa Stumbles on Back 9, Rahm Wins Tournament of Champions

Collin Morikawa started the final round of the Tournament of Champions with a five shot lead over second place, Matt Fitzpatrick.

After the first hole, Morikawa had a nine shot lead over Jon Rahm.

But, it was all for not.

Morikawa made back-to-back bogeys on the second nine while Rahm made three straight birdies and an eagle to take the lead.

Rahm closed with a birdie on the 18th to shoot a final round 63 and get to 27-under par for the tournament.

For Morikawa, those two bogeys were his first two of the week and they came at the worst time.

Morikawa needed a double-eagle on the 18th to tie Rahm on 18, but his second shot did not make the green.

This was the ninth time a player blew a 5-shot 54 hole lead.

This was Rahm’s third win in his last six starts worldwide.
