Elorza, Prov Parks Commission Approve FCG Bid to Manage Triggs

The City of Providence Parks Commission voted to approve FCG Associates bid to operate and manage Triggs for the next ten years.

The vote went 5-1 in favor of FCG with Mayor Jorge Elorza voting for FCG and Council President John Igliozzi voting against.

“I’ve been at Triggs for 32 years. There are things that have to be improved, obviously, I don’t deny that. As a legacy for me, I really want to see through all these improvements that we proposed and bring Triggs to the next level. Make it as Bob Ward said, top five in the country,” said FCG’s Karl Augenstein in an interview with GolfNewsRI following the vote.

FCG Associates has operated Triggs since 1990, according to the City.

“This has been a very stressful ordeal for me for the last several months, even before the RFP came out. I knew it was coming out. Then putting together what we thought was a very good plan, meetings and everything else that we had to do,” Augenstein added.

The new lease begins on January 1, 2023.

GolfNewsRI was first to report that FCG was expected to get the bid on Sunday night, and the scoring ruberic came out on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Igliozzi voted to “table” the vote and conduct further analysis on all of the bids, but he was overruled.

FCG will now negotiate with the Superintendent of Parks Wendy Nilsson and then that deal must be approved by the Board of Contract and Supply.

It is GolfNewsRI’s understanding that, for the most part, those two steps are pretty much a formality.
