Rory McIlroy Returns to World #1 After Victory at CJ Cup
After about a two-year hiatus, Rory McIlroy has regained the #1 spot in the world.
McIlroy won the CJ Cup on Sunday in South Carolina to regain the spot for the first time since July of 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic shut down golf – and the rest of the world.
“Can’t ask for a better start to the season than this. Extremely proud of the work that I have put in to get back to World No. 1. So grateful for the support of my team and fans all over the world,” wrote McIIroy in a tweet.
McIlroy finished the CJ Cup with a score of 17-under par, holding off Kurt Kitayama and Jon Rahm to win the tournament.
The victory was his 23rd on the PGA Tour and 31st worldwide.
On top of all that, this is Milroy’s ninth time reaching the number one spot in the world.
