Patrick Welch Set for PGA Tour Start at Shriners Children’s Open
It has finally arrived.
Patrick Welch will make his PGA Tour debut at the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas starting on Thursday afternoon at TPC Summerlin.
“I’m very excited. I’ve been dreaming about playing on the PGA Tour for a tournament, it’s so hard to do, there are so many good golfers out there. I’m really blessed and fortunate to have that opportunity,” Welch told GolfNewsRI during the Northeast Amateur this past summer.
Welch earned the start after winning the Southern Highlands Collegiate last March.
“We played in Puerto Rico like two weeks before and there was a PGA Tour start there, the Puerto Rico Open. I got sixth and I was leading after the first round, and I was only two back going into the last day. My teammate ended up winning, he shot 20-under,” said Welch.
He continued, “A little disappointed in that, realized there was another chance in a couple of weeks so just got ready. That week I played some of the most complete golf I’ve ever played. To get rewarded with a Tour start later in the year is awesome.”
Welch will tee off at 4:41 p.m. eastern time on Thursday off the 10th tee with Scott Harrington and Philip Knowles.
Friday’s tee time is 11:41 a.m. eastern time on Friday.
