URI Leads Cornell/Temple Fall Invitational After 1st Round
Led by Brandon Gillis, the University of Rhode Island golf team is in first place after the opening round of the Cornell/Temple Fall Invitational at The 1912 Club in Pennsylvania.
Gillis fired a four-under 66 to grab the solo lead, while the Rams posted a team score of 6-under par to lead Temple by five shots heading into Sunday’s final round.

“We will have to have an even better team score tomorrow to win this. Temple on its own course will be dangerous,” said head coach Gregg Burke after the round.
Rhody has posted a couple of top five finishes in their first few tournaments of the season, but will look to get over the hump in this one.
Behind Gillis is Chuck Tragesser, who followed up a solid performance in Rhody’s last tournament with a 68 to start this one off.
Aidan O’Donovan and Bryson Richards are both in a tie for eight at even par.
“We are really good through the first three guys for the second tournament in a row. When the other two guys find their groove, we will have some special rounds,” Burke added.
Rhode Island tees off at 10:34 a.m. on Sunday.
