Papa Wins Regional, Advances to Notah Begay III Jr. Golf National Championship

Vinny Papa will be headed to Louisiana this November to play in the Notah Begay III Jr. Golf National Championship.

This comes after Papa hung on to win the Mississippi Regional on Sunday afternoon by one shot.

“I played my best on the last hole when I was tied, hit a pitching wedge to five feet. I started on the back nine so the 9th hole was my 18th. I missed seven birdie putts by one inch. Not easy playing with a 7 shot lead, I let everybody catch me then I stepped up,” Papa said.

After a first round 69, Papa fired a second round 80 to win the regional by one shot over Ruihan Wang.

Papa Holds On

Starting the day with a significant lead following an impressive three-under round on Saturday, Papa’s final round wasn’t so smooth.

Teeing off the back nine, Papa opened with bogeys on the 10th and 11th holes, before a string of five pars kept her at two-over.

She closed the front nine with a double on the 17th hole and a bogey on 18 to turn at 41.

On the front nine, she bogeyed the third hole, sixth hole and eighth hole to shoot an 80.

She finished five-over for the tournament to qualify by one shot.
