Welch Finishes 7th, Oklahoma 2nd at Frederica Cup

Patrick Welch finished in a tie for seventh place this week at the Frederica Cup at Frederica Golf Club in Georgia on Thursday afternoon. 

The former Classical star posted a three round score of 202 (14-under) to finish in a tie with several other players including top-ranked amateur Gordon Sargent.

Meanwhile, Welch’s Oklahoma Sooners finished in second place, three shots behind first place Vanderbilt. 

“Our guys went out and competed with some really great teams, and I couldn’t be prouder of them. It was a birdie-fest all week long, and our guys kept showing up in big moments,” said Head Coach Ryan Hybl after the round. 

This was Oklahoma’s first tournament of the season. 

The Sooners tee it up next at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio, a 54-hole event slated for Sept. 25-26.

Welch’s Final Round 

Welch opened the round with a birdie on the first hole, then dropped another birdie on the sixth hole to turn at two-under. 

On the back side, Welch birdied the 11th and 15th holes to move into the top five on the leaderboard, however a bogey on the 17th dropped him a few spots.
