O’Leary in 12th, Notre Dame 5th After Day 1 of Fighting Irish Classic

Former Rhode Island Amateur champion Andrew O’Leary fired a two-under 68 and sits in a tie for 12th after round one of the Fighting Irish Classic at Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Indiana. 

Meanwhile, O’Leary’s Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in fifth overall, just one shot back of Georgia Southern and LSU for third place.

Florida leads the tournament at 17-under par, followed closely by two-time defending Northeast Amateur Champion Dylan Menante and the North Carolina Tar Heels. 

The final round of the tournament is Monday.

O’Leary’s Day 

In the first 18, O’Leary started on one and made bogey to go to one-over. 

However, he made four birdies on the next eight holes, including back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth holes to turn at three-under 32. 

After a bogey on 10, O’Leary saved par six straight times, before birding the 17th hole. 

He closed with a double-bogey on the 18th hole to shoot 69. 

Again starting on one for the second 18, O’Leary birdied the fifth hole and bogeyed the sixth to turn at even par 35. 

On the back side, he birdied the 10th hole and 16th hole to shoot a two-under 68.
