Patrick Welch Named to Haskins Award Watch List
Patrick Welch has been named to the Haskins Award Preseason Watch List by Golfweek and Golf Channel.
The Haskins Award honors the player of the year in college men’s golf. The player is selected by college golfers, coaches and media.
“To win the Haskins Award would truly be an honor. To have your name on that trophy means that you were the best player in college all year long. I’m honored to be on the preseason list and can’t wait for the year to start,” said Welch.

Welch will be a fifth year senior this season at Oklahoma and enters the season ranked ninth on the PGA Tour U rankings.
“Head coach Ryan Hybl is going to have to rely on Welch this season. The senior was an honorable mention All-American last year and an All-Big 12 team member after winning at the East Lake Cup. He’ll need to improve on just six top-20 finishes if the Sooners are going to be title contenders once again this season,” writes Golfweek.
Welch’s career scoring average of 71.60 (0.18) is the fourth best in Oklahoma history and third among players with over 100 rounds.
In addition, he broke the school record for low round vs. par when he signed for a 62 (-10) in the opening round of the 2022 Puerto Rico Classic.
The champion of the 2020 East Lake Cup and 2022 Southern Highlands Collegiate, Welch will look to become the seventh Sooner to collect three college wins.
With a win at the Southern Highlands, Welch will play in a PGA Tour event next month.
