WATCH: RI’s Billy Andrade Receives Payne Stewart Award
Rhode Island’s Billy Andrade received the Payne Stewart Award on Tuesday night at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
The Payne Stewart Award is one of the more prestigious awards a professional golfer can receive.
“I am so honored to be part of this elite group. Arnold Palmer won this award the first year it was given out, The King. The man who held doors open for so many of us, and there I was, a kid from Rhode Island and I saw Arnold there, holding that door open and I barreled on through. Payne, I feel like the luckiest person in the world, I really do,” Andrade said during his speech.
For Rhode Islanders, the entire ceremony is worth watching as there are plenty of shoutouts to Rhode Island.
Everything from Brad Faxon talking about the CVS Charity Classic to commissioner Jay Monahan giving shoutouts to Wanumetonomy, Wannamoisett and the Meeting Street School.
The ceremony was shown on Golf Channel and steamed by the PGA Tour on Twitter.
