Q School: The Locals, The Locations + What You Need to Know
Starting this week and continuing through the next month or so, three locals will begin the journey to their dream of making it to the PGA Tour.
Former Rhode Island Amateur Champ Davis Chatfield, former University of Rhode Island golf star Chris Francoeur and four-time RI High School State Champion Will Dickson are all set to start their run through Korn Ferry Tour Q School.
Chatfield and Francoeur start on Wednesday in pre-qualifying, while Dickson will start next month in the first stage of Q School.
To help keep track, GolfNewsRI has broken down who is playing, when they are playing and where they are playing, as well as, everything else you need to know about Q School.
Davis Chatfield – Lantana Golf Course, Texas
Chatfield will pre-qualify at Lantana Golf Course down in Texas.
He will tee off at 10 a.m. local time on Wednesday morning with Nick Martinez and Chris Casey.
There are approximately 75 players in the field, including former NFL quarterback Tony Romo
“Approximately 210 qualifying positions plus ties will be available for Pre-Qualifying contestants to advance to the First Qualifying Stage. The number of applicants advancing from each Pre-Qualifying tournament location will be on a pro rata basis (i.e., approximately the same percentage from each tournament location will advance), and such number will be announced during Pre-Qualifying,” writes the Korn Ferry Tour in their rules and regulations.
According to the Korn Ferry Tour, the exact number of available qualifying spots at Lantana will be posted after all players start round 1.
However, the number is expected to be about 20 or so.
Lantana Golf Course plays to a par 72 and stretches to over 7,140 yards.
Chris Francoeur – Quarry Oaks Golf Club, Nebraska
The former URI star will tee off at 8:53 a.m. local time on Wednesday morning alongside Tyler Fieser and Grant Haefner.
Like with Chatfield’s pre qualifier, the Korn Ferry Tour won’t post the exact number of openings until after everyone tees off for round one.
Quarry Oaks brands itself as the premier golf destination in eastern Nebraska.
It plays as a par 71, and stretches to 6, 960 yards from the black tees.
Will Dickson – The Club at Irish Creek, North Carolina
While Chatfield and Francoeur will be grinding through pre-qualifying, Dickson is skipping right to the first stage.
He gets to skip because he made the cut in a Korn Ferry Tour Tournament back in April.
“Successful Pre-Qualifying applicants and applicants exempt to First Qualifying Stage shall participate in the First Qualifying Stage. First Qualifying Stage tournament locations are scheduled to be approximately 78 players with no reduction (cut) of field,” writes the Korn Ferry Tour in their rules and regulations for Stage 1.
The former Moses Brown star will start first stage on September 13 at The Club at Irish Creek in North Carolina.
According to the KFT, there will be approximately 20 qualifying spots open for stage two.
The Club at Irish Creek was designed by Davis Love III and plays as a par 71. It stretches to over 7,000 yards.
