Texas A&M’s Sam Bennett Holds on to Win U.S. Amateur
Texas A&M golf star Sam Bennet has won the U.S. Amateur.
Bennett held on to beat Georgia Southern’s Ben Carr one-up on Sunday afternoon at Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey to claim the title.
“I’m sure tonight I’ll take a peek at all the names, but I know Tiger Woods’ name is on that three times, and to put my name beside his is something pretty special,” said Bennett after the round.

Bennett was five-up through the first 22 holes of the day, before Carr stormed back to get the match to the 36th hole.
With the victory, Bennett earns an invite to next year’s Masters, British Open and U.S. Open, assuming that he remains an amateur.
Bennett will be a fifth year senior at Texas A&M this fall, and has told media that this will likely be his final U.S. Amateur.
Carr also gets an invite to The Masters.
