BREAKING: Chris Francoeur Advances at U.S. Amateur
Former University of Rhode Island star Chris Francoeur beat Utah’s David Timmins 3&2 to advance to the round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur at Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey.
Francoeur will face the winner of the match between Cohen Trolio and Nicholas Gross on Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
As of 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday, that match was tied through four holes.
Francoeur Advances
Francoeur took a two-up lead with a birdie on the eighth hole, but Timmins battled back, winning each of the next two holes to tie the match.
The former Rhody Ram won the 12th hole to go one-up, but Timmins again tied the match on the 13th hole.
From there, Francoeur took over.
He won the 14th hole with a par, the 15th Hoel with a birdie and closed the match out on the 16th hole with a birdie.
