Chris Francoeur has Share of Lead After Round 1 of U.S. Amateur

Former University of Rhode Island star Chris Francoeur holds a share of the lead after round one of the U.S. Amateur at Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey.
Francoeur posted a three-under par 68 and is tied for first with four other players, including superstar amateur Michael Thorbjornsen.

Francoeur will play Arcola Country Club on Tuesday with a really good chance of advancing to match play.
The top 64 players and ties make the cut for match play, which starts on Wednesday.
Francoeur’s Round
Starting on the back side at Ridgewood, Francoeur opened with birdies on two of the first three holes to get off to the perfect start.
After four straight pars, Francoeur then birdies 17 and 18 to turn at 32, and kicked the front side off with birdies on one and three.
He was six-under par for the tournament at this point, and had pulled away from the field.
The soon-to-be pro parred the fourth and fifth holes, but then bogeyed three of the final four holes to shoot 68.
