Max Jackson Wins 2nd Straight RI Junior Amateur Title
Max Jackson is still on top of the Rhode Island junior golf world.
Jackson beat Barrington’s Cole Vieira 5&3 on Friday afternoon at Winnapaug to win his second straight RI Junior Amateur title.
The La Salle phenom now owns back-to-back Junior Am titles and back-to-back high school state championships.
Next up, he turns his attention to the Pawtucket County Club Championship where he is the number one seed.
Story of the Match
After a little bit of a scare from Rocco Biafore in the semi-finals, Jackson got off to a quick two-up lead through the first two holes, and extended it to three up through five.
Vieira fought back, cutting the deficit to two-up at the turn.
Jackson shot 31 on the front and Vieira 33.
On the back side, Jackson went four-up after winning the tenth and 11th holes, pretty much putting the match on ice.
He closed it out on the 15th hole with a short putt.
Boys 14 & Under Division
In the boys 14 & Under division final, Drive, Chip & Putt alum AJ Colonna beat Drew MacLeod 5&4 to win the title.
Colonna got off to a quick three-up lead through the first five holes and never looked back, going four-up on the ninth hole and five-up on the 14th hole.
Boys First Division
In the first division, 14-year-old Joey Iaciofano beat La Salle star Joseph Earley 3&2 to take the title.
Earley went one-up on the second hole, before Iaciofano won three of the next five holes to take a two up lead.
He would extend it to four-up on the 11th hole, pretty much putting the match away.
