Francoeur, Welch Make Cut at Western Amateur, Chatfield Misses

The first two rounds of the Western Amateur in Illinois are in the books and two locals have made the cut.
Former University of Rhode Island star Chris Francoeur is currently tied for 18th, while former Classical High School star Patrick Welch is one-over and tied for 41st.
Welch made the cut right on the number.

Meanwhile, Davis Chatfield missed the cut and will now look ahead to the U.S. Amateur in New Jersey.
Thursday is the final rounds of the tournament as competitors will play 36 holes to determine a winner.
California’s William Mouw leads at 8-under par.
Francoeur’s 2nd Round
Starting the round in a tie for 6th place, Francoeur opened with two bogeys on the first four holes, before making a birdie on the seventh hole.
He made the turn at one-over 36.
On the back side, the former Rhody star dropped a birdie on the 14th hole, but gave it back with a bogey on the 16th hole to shoot 72.
He is two-under for the tournament with 36 holes to play.
Welch’s 2nd Round
Entering the second round hovering around the cut line, Welch got off to a shaky start with a bogey and a double on the fourth hole to turn at three-over.
He was outside the cut line at the turn.
However, on the back side, Welch lit it up and it saved his tournament.
He birdied the 10th and 11th holes, before bogeying the 13th hole.
He then closed the round with birdies on the 16th and 18th holes to shoot 71 and make the cut.
