Francoeur in 6th After Round 1 of Western Amateur

Former University of Rhode Island star Chris Francoeur is in a tie for sixth place after the first round of the prestigious Western Amateur at Exmoor Country Club in Illinois.
Francoeur fired a first round 68 (3-under) and is five shots off the lead currently held by Kelly Chinn.

Patrick Welch is in a tie for 59th at one-over par, while Davis Chatfield is in 127th at six-over par.
Former NBA player turned collegiate golfer J.R. Smith is in last place.
Francoeur’s Round
Starting his tournament on the tenth hole, Francoeur birdied the tenth and then birdied the 15.
He closed his first nine with a bogey on 17 to turn at 35.
The second nine was a bit of a wild ride.
Francoeur birdied the second hole, bogeyed the third, birdied the fourth to get the rollercoaster going.
He then birdied six, bogeyed eight and closed the round with a birdie on nine.
