BREAKING: Kylie Eaton Wins RI Women’s Amateur
Kylie Eaton defeated Morgan MacLeod 4&2 to win the Rhode Island Women’s Amateur on Friday morning at Wanumetonomy.
“I’m really happy to win, I really liked the course this week. I was finally able to get my putter rolling these last few matches, I felt like I played pretty steady, but I was just staying in the moment, taking one shot at a time,” said Eaton after the round.
Eaton now owns the Women’s Amateur and Junior Amateur titles, and for what it’s worth, three straight Kirkbrae Club Championships.
“I’m really excited to have both, especially at one time. I think it speaks to how much I love match play and I just feel like it brings out the best in my game year after year,” Eaton added.
She will defend the Junior Amateur title next week, and her Kirkbrae clubs championships shortly after that.
The Match
Teeing off early in the morning, Eaton and MacLeod traded holes on the front side with Eaton holding multiple one-up leads.
They would end up making the turn all-square.
Eaton won the tenth hole with a par to go one up and then they halved three straight holes including a clutch bogey putt on the 13th hole.
“It wasn’t the longest or most showy putt, but it definitely kept momentum. I was happy to get that one in,” said Eaton.
After that bogey putt, Eaton won the next two holes to go three up, and then halved the 16th hole to end the match and take the title.
Net Championship
Gail Lederman won the Net Championship 5&4 over Jill Albanese.
