Holy Cross’ Emmerich Sets Alpine Course Record at New England Am

Holy Cross star Christian Emmerich is new course record holder at Alpine County Club.

Emmerich fired a 10-under 62 during Wednesday’s final round of the New England Amateur to break the Alpine course record by two shots.

“When I holed out on seven for eagle from 50 yards, it like trickled in on it’s last roll and that put me at four-under. So I knew I had a pretty good shot, two par fives left, nine is a short par 3 and anything can happen on the back,” Emmerich told GolfNewsRI after the round.

He continued, “I was able to make birdie on eight, turn in five (under), eagle ten, then the ones at 11 and 12 were just kind of gifts. I was nine-under through 12 and I was just trying to see how deep I could take it.”

Emmerich ended up getting to ten under par with three holes to go. If he had birdied the last three holes, he would have shot 59.

He admitted to GolfNewsRI that he was in fact thinking 59.

“I think I hit the ball well enough to shoot 59, just the putts. I mean I probably had three that were going in and then just turned out at the end,” Emmerich said.

Emmerich ended up finishing in a tie for second in the tournament at seven-under par.

He will now look ahead to his senior year at Holy Cross.
