Andrew O’Leary Qualifies for U.S. Amateur
Rhode Island’s Andrew O’Leary edged out Liam Gill in a playoff to qualify for the U.S. Amateur at Ridgewood County Club in New Jersey next month.
O’Leary becomes the fourth Rhode Islander to get through to the Am after Brad Valois, Bobby Leopold and Davis Chatfield are already in.
This will be O’Leary’s first appearance in the U.S. Amateur. He had been an alternate in previous years.
O’Leary won the 2019 Rhode Island Amateur and was runner up in each of the last two years.
He did not play the RI Am in 2022.
O’Leary Gets Through
Playing at the Ledges Golf Club in Maine, O’Leary and Gill both finished at 1-under for the 36 hole qualifier.
Gill was one of two qualifiers last year at this event, but fell short in the playoff to advance for the second straight year, missing out with a bogey on the 3rd playoff hole to take home first alternate status.
