Hamilton, Blaser Set to Battle for RI Amateur Title

The Rhode Island Amateur Championship match is set, Kirkbrae’s Mike Hamilton will take on Kevin Blaser at Wanumetonomy on Friday morning.

Blaser got to the final after upsetting top-seeded Brad Valois and then beating Billy Forcier on Thursday.

“I feel like I played three finals matches already,” Blaser told GolfNewsRI after his round.

Meanwhile, Hamilton edged rising star Max Jackson in the first match on Thursday and then beat Jantzen Vargas 2&1.

It is Hamilton’s first appearance in the Amateur final.

“It’s pretty cool. I beat four good guys to get here, it’s just a grind mentally, physically and it is getting harder and harder to win this tournament with the amount of guys that are here,” Hamilton said in exclusive comments to GolfNewsRI after the round.

The two players will tee off for the first 18 holes at 7:30 a.m.

“Mike is a great player and good friend. Hopefully, we make a bunch of birds and put on a good show,” said Blaser about the match.

Hamilton added, “Kevin is a good buddy of mine so I think we will both be happy that we are here, but at the same time we both want to win.”

More to come…
