McIlroy Says Brad Faxon has been “Great Asset” for Him

Rory McIlroy is continuing to put in work with Rhode Island’s Brad Faxon on and around the greens.
The relationship that started on a random Monday afternoon in 2018, has now blossomed into great friendship.
“Fax has been a great asset for me but also just a great friend as well, someone to lean on, someone that’s played the tour for a long, long time. I can lean on him if I ever need to,” McIlroy said in response to a question from GolfNewsRI’s Joe Calabro at his press conference on Tuesday.

Faxon has been working with Rory on and around the greens.
Since they started working, McIlroy has accumulated multiple wins, including last week in Canada, and has climbed back up the Official World Golf Rankings.
“We spent a couple of hours together at the Bear’s Club on a Monday afternoon, and then that same week on a Sunday I had my best-ever performance on the greens in a tour event,” said McIlroy.
He added, “What we were talking about worked straight away, and I feel like I’ve become a much more consistent putter since working with Brad. If anything, it’s become almost less practice in a way. Just sort of simplified the whole thing. It doesn’t have to be perfect. All you’re trying to do is get the ball in the hole, and a lot of visualization, a lot of hitting putts at different speeds and getting the ball to enter on the high side, on the low side. Just be so visual with it and sort of try to put a lot more feel into it, the way I play the rest of the game.”
McIlroy begins his U.S. Open at 7:40 a.m. on Thursday off the tenth tee.
