USGA Bringing U.S. Open Experiences to Boston
We are just days away from the U.S. Open kicking off at The Country Club at Brookline.
While the tournament is being held at The Country Club, the USGA is bringing various U.S. Open experiences to the city of Boston.
There is an undeniable excitement for this year’s championship among Boston sports fans,” said Jon Podany, the USGA’s chief commercial officer. “We are thrilled to offer a number of new and exciting ways for fans in the area to experience the U.S. Open, even if they aren’t attending the championship.”
Between June 10-19 fans can expect:
Pre-Championship Merchandise Tent Opening
The U.S. Open Merchandise Pavilion at The Country Club will be open to the general public for pre-championship shopping from Friday, June 10 through Sunday, June 12 from 10 a.m. to 6.pm. Tickets
are not required to access the Merchandise Pavilion during these three days. Covering 24,000 square feet, the Main Merchandise Pavilion features more than 400,000 logoed items from 45 brands bearing the 122nd U.S. Open Championship logo, including hats, polo shirts, outerwear, t-shirts, posters, headcovers, golf towels and much more.
Complimentary parking will be available at Dexter Southfield School (20 Newton St., Brookline, Mass. 02445) with a short shuttle ride to The Country Club.
U.S. Open 19th Hole
From Wednesday through Friday of championship week, High Street Place Food Hall in downtown Boston will be transformed into the U.S. Open 19th Hole, giving local fans a unique way to engage with the championship during and after the daily broadcast. The 19th Hole will feature games, programming, specials and live podcast and radio recordings with some of the biggest names in golf and Boston sports.
The taping schedule is as follows:
- Wednesday, June 15 – The Shotgun Start by The Fried Egg
- Bar opens at 4 p.m. ET; podcast recording at 6 p.m. ET
- Thursday, June 16 – The Drop Zone by Golf.com
- Bar opens at 4 p.m. ET; podcast recording at 7 p.m. ET
- Friday, June 17 – 98.5 The Sports Hub
- Bar opens at 5 p.m. ET; podcast recording at 7 p.m. ET
U.S. Open Junior Experience
Taking place at Fisher Hill Reservoir Park in Brookline, just over a mile from The Country Club, the U.S. Open Junior Experience featuring the First Tee, with support of Sentry Insurance, will provide a fun and unique golf experience for the community to enjoy the championship free-of-charge. Taking place Wednesday, June 15, to Saturday, June 18, the event will feature a variety of games and activities designed for juniors to enjoy, in an effort to foster a love for the game.
Hours of operation are as follows:
- Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.
- Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The First Tee Game Changers Pavilion – an experience inspired by First Tee’s mission to empower young people to become game changers in their communities – will feature innovative and interactive experiences provided by two of the USGA’s corporate partners, Cisco and Sentry, a First Tee Trustee. The Cisco 4D fan experience will allow participants to see their swing captured in the same slow-motion, multi-angle replay used during the U.S. Open broadcast, with a personalized video emailed to each golfer as a digital keepsake. In addition, the experience will include a closest-to-the-hole hitting bay, virtual target challenges and larger-than-life outdoor games. Juniors will also have the opportunity to have their photo taken with the U.S. Open Trophy and interact with a number of Boston-based sports team mascots.
Entrance is free and no ticket is required. The championship broadcast will be available on large LED screens on-site, so guests don’t have to miss a second of the U.S. Open action.
