Welch, Oklahoma Upset by Arizona State in NCAA Championship Quarterfinal Match

In a huge stunner, Patrick Welch and his top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners were knocked off by seventh seeded Arizona State in their quarterfinal match at the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Arizona. 

Oklahoma lost the match 3-2 and are eliminated from the tournament. 

“Gutted by today’s result, but so proud of all we did this year. We’ll be back Sooner Nation,” writes Oklahoma golf on social media.

Welch lost his match 1up to Arizona State’s Mason Anderson.

Welch’s Match 

Welch took a one up lead on the fourth hole, before Anderson tied the match on the seventh hole with a birdie. 

The former Classical star then took another one-up lead on the tenth hole, before Anderson again tied the match on the 12th hole. 

After the two players tied the next five holes, it came down to 18. 

Anderson made a birdie, while Welch made a par to lose the match.
