Max Jackson, La Salle Lead State Championship After Round 1

Max Jackson fired a dazzling four-under 67 to put himself and La Salle in firm control of the Rhode Island High School Golf State championship after the first round at Cranston Country Club.
Jackson, who is seeking his second straight individual title, has a three shot lead over Moses Brown’s Harry Dessel heading into Wednesday’s final round.

Meanwhile, the Rams will enter the final round with a seven shot lead over defending champion Bishop Hendricken and nine shot lead over Moses Brown
Other than Jackson, La Salle got three 79s from Charles Melvin, Joseph Earley and Olivia Williams to grab hold of the lead.
The final round gets underway on Wednesday morning at Cranston Country Club.
Jackson Goes Low
Jackson opened the round with five straight pars, before making back-to-back birdies on six and seven.
The birdie on six was pretty.
After putting his drive in the fairway, Jackson hit a low-ish punch shot into the slope on the green.
The ball hit and then trickled back toward the hole, leaving Jackson about a five footer for birdie, which he drained like it was a tap in.
Another birdie on seven, sent the final pairing to the island green 8th hole, where Jackson three-putted for bogey from about 15 feet.
Jackson then made five straight pars from holes nine to 13, before making an eagle on the 14th hole.
The La Salle phenom closed with a birdie on 16, bogey on 17 and birdie on 18 to shoot 67.
