Chris Francoeur Advances in U.S. Open Qualifying
Former University of Rhode Island golf star Chris Francoeur has advanced to sectional qualifying for the U.S. Open.
Francoeur posted a four-under 68 at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Kentucky to to be one of six players to qualify from that location.
It is unclear where Francoeur will play his sectional qualifier at this point.
Francoeur opened the round with two straight pars, before making back-to-back birdies on the third and fourth holes to get to two-under on the day.
After three straight pars, Francoeur made bogey on the eighth hole to turn at one-under 35.
Making the turn, Francoeur bogeyed the 12th hole, before going on a birdie binge.
The Massachusetts’s native dropped birdies on the 13th and 14th holes, then closed the round by birding the 16th and 18th hole.
