Mickelson Withdraws from PGA Championship

Phil Mickelson has withdrawn from next week’s PGA Championship, the PGA of America announced on Friday.

Mickelson has not played in a tournament since the Saudi International in early February.

“We have just been informed that Phil Mickelson has withdrawn from the PGA Championship, Phil is the defending champion and currently eligible to be a PGA Life Member and we would have welcomed him to participate. We wish Phil and Amy the very best and look forward to his return to golf,” the PGA of America announced in a statement.

Speculation of Phil returning started when he was seen hitting balls at his home course.

Earlier this week, GolfNewsRI took part in the PGA Championship Media call with CBS and Jim Nantz said he had talked to Phil in advance of the tournament.
