Welch in 14th, Oklahoma 5th After Opening Round of Calusa Cup

Patrick Welch posted a one-under 71 and sits in 14th after the opening round of the Calusa Cup on Sunday at Calusa Pines Golf Club in Florida.
Welch was four under on the round until a double bogey on the 17th and a bogey on the 18th.
“Patrick played almost perfect golf until the end there. We’ll get better tomorrow and keep at it,” said Oklahoma Head Coach Ryan Hybl after the round.

Meanwhile, Welch’s Oklahoma Sooners sit in fifth place overall at two-over as a team.
“We just had too many giveaways today for us to have a good round. Calusa can make you look not very good at times around the greens and that was us today,” Hybl added.
Florida leads the tournament at 12-under.
The Sooners tee off just before 1 p.m. on Monday in the second round.
Welch’s Round
Welch birdied the third hole and parred out to turn at 1-under 35.
On the back side, he birdied the 13th and 14th holes, and then dropped another birdie on the 16th hole to get to four-under for the tournament and near the top of the leaderboard.
However, a double-bogey on 17 and a bogey on the par-5 18th sent him backwards into 14th.
